BLIZZARD BOXES
Not so nice weather today, Wondering where the sun they promised us is hiding.
We talked about Blizzard Boxes last week and agreed to continue this project for Meals On Wheels.
This is a shoe box (no boot boxes please) top and bottom wrapped separately in some colorful wrapping (Sunday funnies would work) and filled with eight (8) non-perishable food stuff as outlined below:
1 Protein – canned tuna or chicken
1 vegetable – any can, low sodium only
1 fruit – any can packed in water or its own juice, or dried fruits like raisins
1 soup – low sodium
1 starch – oatmeal packets, individual mac and cheese or rice packets
1 shelf stable milk
1 condiment – jam/jelly (no sugar added), small containers of mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, honey, salad dressing
1 dessert – low sugar, low fat puddings as example
Plus an optional note to the senior if you like!
These will be collected and taken to Meals On Wheels in West Nyack sometime in November/December for them to distribute for their clientele to use when the snow flies and transport of meals is impossible.
If you cannot do this project, please consider supporting by writing a check in any amount to DKG Alpha Eta and sending it to Jerry Goumas (120 Locust Drive, Upper Nyack, NY 10960) and write “Blizzard Boxes” in the line on the left.
Thanks for all you do,
Lochie
